Active Cases Per Capita - May 31 - U.S. States (Top 36 States)

I kept looking at the worldometer chart and wishing there was an active cases per capita column so we could see how all the states are currently doing compared to each other.  So I pulled the chart just now and made my own column.  I highlighted a few states that are of particular interest to me but the top 36 states in terms of current active cases per capita are here.  I'm not sure how each state is coming to their "active cases" number, but anyway it is some number they are putting out.  They might be estimating or it might be confirmed active cases only.  And it is hard to say when each state considers a case as "recovered".  So again - the data isn't perfect.  But it's something.  I didn't include the total tests or tests per million column on this chart... but it would be more instructive as to the accuracy of the active cases if we had a "recent tests" type of number... since so many tests were completed more than 2 weeks ago and don't tell us much about what is currently happening.

Comparison to Orange County, California

This evening I found numbers for Orange County, California from the Orange County register that I wanted to throw in for comparison.  I'm working of population estimates of 3,180,000 for Orange County and 3,282,000 for Utah.  So Utah overall has just a little larger population than Orange County.  The last two or three days of stats are still subject to change and in some Utah cases estimated.

Active Cases - the "Curve"

In general I think there has been too much focus on total cumulative positive cases or total deaths or new cases on a given day.  When we were all told we are trying to flatten the curve.  The curve is really how many active cases do we have day-to-day over time.  In other words - do we have few enough active cases at any given moment for our healthcare system to be able to give adequate care (to people with COVID-19 and people with any other health issues).  And also how quickly is the number of active cases growing from day to day? My data isn't amazing for this - because I haven't been recording the active cases number every day and it is difficult to look up historically (because most focus has been on total cases since March).  So I'll just plot a graph of the data points I do have.
