Hello there! For the past few months I have been compiling points of data for my own information about this thing they call COVID-19. In another life I was a data analyst. This just started out with me wondering about what is going on out there in the world with regard to this virus that is pinning us all in place. And since then I've found I wanted a place to share some of the information I find because I think there are a lot of people out there sort of confused and starved for something concise and helpful. I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything in particular. I just wanted a place to go to look at data I find interesting or informative. And have it all in one place. So I can maybe summarize things, or compare things in ways I find helpful. Or look back on past data musings. So I'm starting here. I don't think all of the data is very complete or perfect, but I still think it can be interesting and helpful for co...
This evening I found numbers for Orange County, California from the Orange County register that I wanted to throw in for comparison. I'm working of population estimates of 3,180,000 for Orange County and 3,282,000 for Utah. So Utah overall has just a little larger population than Orange County. The last two or three days of stats are still subject to change and in some Utah cases estimated.
In general I think there has been too much focus on total cumulative positive cases or total deaths or new cases on a given day. When we were all told we are trying to flatten the curve. The curve is really how many active cases do we have day-to-day over time. In other words - do we have few enough active cases at any given moment for our healthcare system to be able to give adequate care (to people with COVID-19 and people with any other health issues). And also how quickly is the number of active cases growing from day to day? My data isn't amazing for this - because I haven't been recording the active cases number every day and it is difficult to look up historically (because most focus has been on total cases since March). So I'll just plot a graph of the data points I do have. United States Active Cases - Data Points collected from Worldometer (at various times of day) https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/ And ...
